Is the social justice club worth joining? do you enjoy it?

The We Team is the love of my life. It has introduced me to the best friends I could have asked for, it has given me so many opportunities and leadership skills. I get to go on TONS of trips like We Day and many others in Toronto and best of all it lets me have the chances to give back to the local community. If it is what you are interested in then I know you wont be disappointed. But our school also offers many other clubs and sports to join covering basically all of peoples interests. I will post all of them in a future question.

Does JPII have career days?

There are a number of opportunities to find about careers while at JPII. There is the grade 9 take your kids to work. There are guest speakers in various classes. There are class trips where you might see different careers. There is a grade 10 course called careers that every student has to take to graduate. You can do job shadowing and exploration in a GWL3O course or go out and earn 1, 2 or 4 credits in a cooperative education course. There are also presentations related to college, university and apprenticeship programs each year hosted by the guidance department. But specifically there are no set career days :)

How much do uniforms cost and what do they look like?

All of the uniforms for John Paul II have to be purchased at RJ McCarthy http://www.rjmccarthy.com/. In fact if you know you are going to come to John Paul II you can pre-register right on their site. You can visit the store in London:

431 Newbold St.

London ON

N6E 1K2

416-593-6900

1-800-668-8261

You can purchase at the store or online. Pieces cost about $50 and you will find that you will probably spend between $300 and $500. The clothing does last a long time as long as you do not grow out of it. Actual costs and the variety of selection can be seen on the McCarthy website listed above.

 New Questions ^^^^^^

How do i know i will pick courses that will help me succeed with my career choices?

Me personally, and MANY of my friends are still trying to figure out our future careers. Its completely okay to still be unsure of what you want to do, and if you do know already, that's great :D Go to the Jags.ca website and click on the departments, guidance, guidance links for high school

http://www.ldcsb.on.ca/schools/jp2/guidance1/guidlink.html

You get to explore the career choices and the requirements of the University/College courses.

Now if you're still unsure then just follow the courses you like. :)

As for the level of academic, applied or locally developed think about your work habits and which stream you would be best situated to. If you always do all your homework and find school easy then go for the academic courses. If some areas are a real struggle then perhaps you should consider the applied to locally developed courses. It is very common for some people to take academic courses in one area like history or languages while in another area they take the applied like math or French. You do not have to be in the same level for all of your courses.

If I decide to do a victory lap, how does that help? And what does it do?

A lot of people from each graduating class return for a victory lap. I'm one of them. It gives you the chance to take the courses you never had time to, or you can retake courses to upgrade a mark, to open more doors by broadening your experiences and course selection, to mature one more year before work or post-secondary education options, to play one more year of sports, or simply to allow more time to make that final decision on your future.

How many courses are you allowed to take in one year?

You get to take a maximum of 8 courses a year, 4 courses per semester (there are two semesters in a year)

The school does not allow you to take less than 8 courses a year in grades nine and ten. In grade 11 or twelve you are allowed to take a spare with permission but remember you need 30 credits to graduate so do not be in too big a hurry to take a spare.

How will you know what you can do for your 40 hours of community service? Can you do anything you want?

You can do anything you want AS LONG as it would not normally be performed for wages or during school hours. One exception is you can gain volunteer hours on your lunch periods. As an example, I volunteered at Sunday school, I painted posters for school events and I Volunteered for events around the school like orientation days. The organization that you volunteer for has to sign the volunteer sheet that you can pick up in the guidance department. Also guidance has to approve your 40 hours prior to graduation. Do you know that some students do not graduate each year as they have not completed their 40 hours. Don’t let this happen to you.
